Collection and Treatment 

Electrão is responsible for the proper treatment of used batteries. We are also committed to making citizens aware of the importance of sending this waste correctly for recycling.

Batteries that are not properly recycled pose a risk to health and the environment. Due to its composition, which contains heavy and toxic metals such as cadmium, recycling is essential, as it prevents these substances from passing into the environment and allows the recovery of almost 100% of the materials.

In 2022, we collected and sent for recycling more batteries and portable batteries compared to the previous year, campaigns such as "Todos pelo IPO" and the increase in the collection points of the Electrão Network, which now exceed 6,000 throughout the national territory, contributed.

The collection of batteries on the Electrão network is organized into 2 types:

  • portable batteries
  • industrial batteries

Treatment and Recycling

After collection, the batteries are sent to specialized centers and treated according to their type. In these centers, all procedures are ensured to ensure the correct and safe removal of toxic components.

New collection campaign
New collection campaign "Todos pelo IPO

In 2022, Electrão promoted the campaign “Todos por IPO – Recycling is good for health and the environment”, with the intuit of collecting batteries and used electrical equipment to support IPO Lisboa in its own mission to provide health care. The campaign counted on the adhesion of some companies and with the awareness of the population for the delivery of waste in the Electrão sites.
